Workout Journal Notes

Phase 4 of “Maximum Strength” is officially in session!

The first workout was exciting, as always, with a few new twists that took some adjusting to.

It always takes me a bit longer in each phase’s first week as I determine the amount of weight to use for each exercise.

After that, it’s simple, because I’m aiming to add about 5-10% onto last week’s total.

I was all over the place on the Anderson Front Squats, way too heavy, then way too light, until I finally got it right.

Coming to a complete stop in the bottom position is MUCH harder than using that natural light “bounce” that I’m used to.

The Barbell Reverse Lunges with Front-Squat Grip were also brand new and just as challenging.

Having the bar up high and in front really challenges your core to keep you balanced with such an awkward center of gravity, and these made me sweat more than anything else.

I ended with Hanging Straight-Leg Raises which I didn’t do at all in the last phase, so I’ve dropped a couple of reps from my personal bests, but I’m sure they will come back quickly.

I’m ready for Phase 4′s first upper body workout tomorrow!
