Workout Journal Notes

Brrrrr! I finally got to bust out the ninja suit, as the temperature was in the low 40’s this morning.

I was decked out from head-to-toe in Under Armour ColdGear, including the compression shirt, pants, gloves, and hood.

It worked surprisingly well, and I even had to lower the mouth part of the hoodie to cool off.

My only mistake was not wearing thicker socks or doubling up with 2 pair, because my feet were freezing, made even more noticeable by how warm the rest of my body was.

I’ll know next time though!

All that gear made me feel like a superhero, so I went out on a limb and decided to make my first truly cold-weather HIIT even more challenging by jogging back between sprints, instead of walk-backs.

I had tried it a few months ago and felt that it just took too much out of me to be able to give a full effort on the sprint portions, but my endurance and conditioning has greatly improved over the last several weeks.

It was definitely still much harder, but I was able to complete a total of 8 intervals.

Given the fact that my lungs probably haven’t quite adapted to the cold weather and that my rest time was cut from 40 seconds to 20 seconds between sprints, I was very satisfied with the results.

Now, I can build on that, working my way up to double-digit intervals and beyond.

I know it will get much colder as time goes on, but I’m confident I’ll be able to handle it, because aside from my feet, I was very comfortable, bordering on actually being warm.
