Today’s Workout Log

Warm-up

  • 30 minutes of dynamic stretching and soft tissue work

Workout

Superset 1 (Do one set of first exercise, then immediately to first set of second exercise, then rest for 2 minutes, and repeat…)

  • Incline Bench Press - 45 pounds - Sets: 12/12
  • Trap Bar Deadlift - 45 pounds - Sets: 12/12

Superset 2

  • Squat - 45 pounds - Sets: 12/12
  • Chinups - Bodyweight - Sets: 9/6

Workout Journal Notes

I’m getting back into the groove, and I can’t wait to start adding more pounds to the bar, but I’m just making sure I ease back in after the layoff.

I’ll throw a few more pounds in on Friday, then should be ready to go on Monday!

I’m going to be sticking to this very simple plan, consisting of “The Big 4,” but I’ll be alternating reps/sets to mix things up.

Of course, I’ll vary the weight accordingly too, but Monday’s will be “medium” days with 3 sets of 8, Wednesday’s will be high-rep with 2 sets of 12, and Friday’s will be heavy with 5 sets of 5.

And borrowing a similar weekly schedule to “Maximum Strength,” I’ll do 3 weeks of the above schedule, then have an active-recovery week of just bodyweight exercises for the last week of each month.

They will still be very challenging bodyweight exercises though, particularly moves that I have a lot of room for improvement on, like single-leg squats and body-weight rows.

So, they certainly won’t be “off” weeks, but just another form of mixing things up, while challenging my body in different ways and really hitting all of the smaller stabilizing muscles at the same time.

I really think it’s a well-rounded program, even though it seems simple, and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of results it produces!
